Vietnam vows to strengthen comprehensive cooperation with Cambodia

President Luong Cuong made the remarks during a reception in Hanoi on December 29 for outgoing Cambodian Ambassador Chea Kimtha.
President Cuong expressed his delight at Cambodia’s significant achievements in national development and affirmed his confidence that, under the leadership of the King and the Cambodian People’s Party, the country would continue to achieve comprehensive progress toward peace, stability, and prosperity.
He highlighted positive developments in bilateral relations, noting that party-to-party ties provide strategic guidance; defence and security cooperation remains a cornerstone; economic relations have achieved solid growth; and collaboration in education, culture, tourism, and people-to-people exchanges continues to strengthen, enhancing mutual understanding and lasting bonds between the two peoples.
The President also emphasised the importance of educating younger generations about the historical significance of Vietnam–Cambodia relations, contributing to a long-lasting and sustainable friendship.
He welcomed recent positive developments in managing the Cambodia–Thailand border conflict, applauding the two countries’ joint declaration on ceasefire and tension reduction measures. He voiced Vietnam’s readiness to support peaceful, law-based dispute resolution in line with international law and ASEAN solidarity.
President Cuong expressed his hope that Ambassador Chea Kimtha, in her future role, would continue to serve as a bridge fostering long-term friendship and cooperation between Vietnam and Cambodia. He reaffirmed Vietnam’s commitment to creating favourable conditions for stable and sustainable bilateral relations.
In response, Ambassador Chea Kimtha thanked President Cuong and other Vietnamese leaders for their support during her tenure. She expressed her delight at the positive trajectory of Vietnam–Cambodia relations and emphasised that the friendship between the two countries is a valuable legacy nurtured across generations.
The ambassador also praised Vietnam’s role in promoting dialogue, building trust, and peacefully resolving disputes, contributing to regional stability, cooperation, and peace.
