Vietnamese and Chinese Prime Ministers hold talks in Kunming

Chinh at the same time affirmed that developing relations with China is a consistent policy, an objective requirement, a strategic choice, and a top priority in Vietnam’s foreign policy.

He suggested that both sides continue to effectively implement the common perceptions reached by the top leaders of the two Parties and countries, and maintain high-level visit exchanges to discuss bilateral relations and issues of mutual concern.

He asked both sides to expedite cooperation on three standard-gauge railway projects connecting Vietnam and China, and suggested that China provide support in terms of funding, technology transfer, and human resource training for these projects.

Chinh also expressed hope that China would continue to open its market to key Vietnamese agricultural products, work with Vietnam to establish testing and quarantine stations for Vietnamese agricultural goods at the Dong Dang-Pingxiang International Railway Border Gate, and cooperate in electricity trading.

He urged quick implementation and gradual expansion of the smart border gate model to other border crossings and called for early discussions on the implementation model for cross-border economic cooperation zones.

He expected that both sides would work to strengthen the social foundation of their bilateral relationship, and especially effectively deploy the Vietnam-China People-to-People Exchange Year in 2025 as an opportunity to promote people-to-people exchanges and foster goodwill, as well as to boost tourism recovery.

Li for his part affirmed that the Party and Government of China always prioritize relations with Vietnam as a key partner in their neighbourhood diplomacy. He emphasized that China is ready to maintain strategic exchanges with Vietnam, deepen practical cooperation, and advance the China-Vietnam Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership and the China-Vietnam Community of Shared Future with strategic significance in a more profound and practical way.

The Premier also confirmed that China will further open its market to high-quality Vietnamese goods, including agricultural products. He agreed to strengthen transportation infrastructure connectivity, promote cooperation to establish and maintain stable supply and production chains in the region, and expressed support for Vietnam’s hosting of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in 2027.

In the presence of the two Prime Ministers, Deputy Foreign Minister Pham Thanh Binh and his Chinese counterpart Ma Zhaoxu exchanged diplomatic notes between the Vietnamese and Chinese Foreign Ministries regarding the establishment of a Vietnamese Consulate General in Chongqing.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh is in Kunming for the 8th Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS) Summit, the 10th Ayeyawady - Chao Phraya - Mekong Economic Cooperation Strategy (ACMECS) Summit, and the 11th Cambodia-Laos-Myanmar-Vietnam (CLMV) Cooperation Summit.
