VOV.VN - Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and his spouse met Australian Governor-General Gen. David Hurley and his spouse in Canberra on March 7.
Chinh respectfully conveyed to the Governor General the greetings of senior Vietnamese leaders, and congratulated Australia on successfully organizing the ASEAN-Australia Special Summit to mark 50 years of their dialogue partnership.
He thanked Australia for providing its valuable support to Vietnam, including the construction of two bridges of My Thuan and Cao Lanh in the Mekong Delta region, helping Vietnam move its field hospital to South Sudan for the United Nations peacekeeping mission, and training high-quality human resources for the Southeast Asian nation.
Governor-General David Hurley recalled the good impressions of his visit to Vietnam last April and expressed his wish to return to Vietnam soon.
Hurley appreciated the good results of the ASEAN-Australia Special Summit, including Vietnam’s positive contributions. He said the Southeast Asia Economic Strategy to 2040 developed by the Australian Government’s Special Envoy for Southeast Asia is of great importance as it outlines a practical pathway to significantly increase two-way trade and investment between Australia and Southeast Asia.
The two leaders expressed satisfaction at the good development of Vietnam – Australia relations after more than half a century of their diplomacy, and agreed to strengthen bilateral cooperation in education, culture and people-to-people exchanges.
They also appreciated the two countries upgrading their relationship to a comprehensive strategic partnership during Chinh’s visit, considering this an important milestone in Vietnam - Australia relations.
Chinh proposed that Australia create more favourable conditions for Vietnamese expatriates to live, work and study, while maintaining Vietnamese language and culture in their host country. He affirmed that Vietnam welcomes Australian citizens to study, work, and do business in Vietnam.
Meanwhile, the Governor-General of Australia proposed that Vietnam continue to support Australian universities in opening training facilities in the country.

VOV.VN -Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son held a meeting on March 5 with his Australian counterpart Penny Wong within the framework of the ASEAN-Australia Special Summit to commemorate the 50th anniversary of ASEAN-Australia dialogue relations.
