Another officer deployed to UN Peacekeeping Mission in South Sudan

VOV.VN - The Ministry of National Defence on October 10 held a ceremony to present the President’s decision on the deployment of a Vietnamese officer to a United Nations peacekeeping mission.

Major Le Vinh Hoang, Company Commander of Brigade 229 under the Corps of Engineers, was selected to serve as a Military Observer at the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS), replacing Captain Chu Tuan Linh upon the completion of his term.

Maj. Hoang previously served a one-year term (2022–2023) at the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilisation Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA), where he worked as a military intelligence analyst. He has completed multiple specialised training courses on UN peacekeeping and gained valuable field experience.

Before deployment, Maj. Hoang prepared a detailed operational plan, which was approved by the Vietnam Department of Peacekeeping Operations. He also took the initiative to learn from experienced colleagues and actively studied and trained to strengthen the knowledge and practical skills required for his new assignment. He is ready to take part in pre-deployment induction training at the mission site.

Speaking at the ceremony, Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien, Deputy Minister of National Defence, praised the Vietnam Department of Peacekeeping Operations and relevant units for its thorough preparation and training of personnel for this important mission. He expressed confidence that Maj. Hoang would demonstrate strong resolve and responsibility, overcome the challenges of the mission area, and fulfill his duties with excellence.

The Deputy Minister emphasised the importance of strictly adhering to Party guidelines and State policies, military discipline, as well as regulations of the United Nations and the host country. He also stressed the need to ensure absolute safety throughout the mission, uphold the traditions of the Vietnam People’s Army, and actively engage and cooperate with international colleagues.

In response, Maj. Hoang affirmed his readiness to depart with the highest level of determination and commitment. He pledged to uphold unity within the mission and among international colleagues, and to stay vigilant in assessing and responding to any developments on the ground to ensure the absolute safety of personnel and equipment.

He also revealed his intention to actively engage in humanitarian and outreach activities, helping promote the image of a friendly, humane, and peace-loving Vietnam, and to exemplify the noble qualities of the “Uncle Ho’s soldiers” to international friends and colleagues.

To date, more than 1,300 Vietnamese officers and professional soldiers have been deployed to UN peacekeeping missions, either individually or as part of units.
