VOV.VN - Deputy Prime Minister Pham Gia Tuc has urged ministries, agencies, and local authorities to accelerate preparations for APEC 2027, describing the event as a strategic opportunity to enhance Vietnam’s international standing and create new development momentum for Phu Quoc, An Giang, and the Mekong Delta region.
Tuc made the request during the third meeting of the National Committee for APEC 2027 in Hanoi on June 2, with online participation from An Giang provincial authorities.
Addressing the meeting, the Deputy Prime Minister emphasised that Vietnam’s leadership considers APEC 2027 a strategic opportunity to effectively implement the foreign policy direction set out at the 14th National Party Congress.
The event is expected to help elevate Vietnam’s international prestige while generating new growth drivers for Phu Quoc Island of An Giang province that will play host to the summit, and the broader Mekong Delta region, he said.
He stressed that APEC 2027 is not only a major diplomatic event but also an important opportunity to strengthen economic, trade, investment, tourism, cultural, and international connectivity.
Vietnam aims to organise the APEC Year at a scale matching its significance while ensuring security, quality, efficiency, and the maximisation of development opportunities arising from the event, he noted.
He highlighted the need to prepare early, and implement plans systematically, scientifically, and in a coordinated manner, alongside mobilising the strength of the entire political system, businesses, and the people.
According to the Deputy Prime Minister, the Politburo, the Party’s Secretariat, and the Prime Minister have issued multiple mechanisms and policies aimed at removing bottlenecks and accelerating infrastructure, transport, and facility projects serving the APEC 2027 summit.
Preparations are entering a crucial phase and relevant ministries, agencies, localities, and subcommittees have generally maintained progress according to schedule.
Regarding preparations for the summit agenda, Tuc stressed that content development is particularly important. Drawing on experience from hosting previous APEC years and participating in overseas APEC meetings, Vietnam aims to proactively develop themes, agendas, and practical initiatives capable of leaving a strong impression during the APEC Economic Leaders’ Week.
At the same time, preparations involving human resources, communications, mobilisation of social resources, and the application of modern technologies are expected to be further strengthened to create products and events reflecting Vietnamese identity.
However, the Deputy Prime Minister warned that time is running short before APEC 2027, while the workload remains enormous and increasingly demanding. He pointed out that several tasks are still behind schedule, requiring ministries, agencies, and localities to accelerate implementation across all areas.
In addition to speeding up infrastructure construction, authorities were instructed to pay close attention to content preparation, communications, security, health care, logistics, and other support conditions.
The Deputy PM emphasised that all preparations must closely follow directives from Party and State leaders, with clear assignments of responsibilities, timelines, deliverables, and implementation accountability.
He also called for stronger administrative discipline, proactive problem-solving, and the prevention of delays or overlapping responsibilities.
For infrastructure projects serving APEC, the Deputy Prime Minister assigned the Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Construction, and Vietnam Electricity Group to closely coordinate with An Giang authorities to resolve issues related to funding, land clearance, and special mechanisms.
Major projects, conference centres, and APEC-related facilities are expected to be completed before the third quarter of 2027.
Regarding protocol and logistics, he requested thorough and respectful preparations that would showcase Vietnam as a friendly and hospitable nation while complying with APEC practices and standards.
The Protocol Subcommittee was tasked with promptly developing an overall master plan and detailed scenarios for all activities of APEC 2027, especially the Leaders’ Week.
The Deputy Prime Minister held that the ultimate goal is to successfully organise an APEC Year carrying a strong Vietnamese identity, thereby contributing positively to peace, cooperation, and development in the Asia-Pacific region and beyond.
