VOV.VN - Amid complex international and regional developments and the growing sabotage activities of hostile forces, the army must remain constantly ready, vigilant, and proactive, said Party General Secretary To Lam at a ceremony marking 80 years of Military Region 4.
Speaking at the ceremony held in Nghe An province on October 12, the leader noted that the current global situation is rapidly changing and unpredictable, while hostile forces are actively exploiting social media and online platforms to undermine the Party, State, and military.
This situation requires the army to continuously enhance forecasting, maintain political and combat readiness, and respond promptly to any scenario to firmly protect national independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, stressed the leader.
The General Secretary praised the armed forces of Military Region 4, saying over the past 80 years, generations of leaders, officers, and soldiers have demonstrated courage, intelligence, and military skill, achieving outstanding feats in national liberation as well as national construction and defence, worthy of the honours awarded by the Party, State, and the Army.
Pointing out several key priorities for the Military Region 4 in the future, he called for the thorough implementation of Ho Chi Minh’s military thought and the Party’s national defence strategy, ensuring a close integration of national defence with socio-economic development. He stressed the need to enhance training quality, maintain high combat readiness, and master modern weaponry, particularly in high-tech, cyber, and asymmetric warfare.
He also highlighted the importance of promoting science, technology, and digital transformation across command, management, training, and logistics systems. Building a strong, politically steadfast, skilled, and disciplined corps of officers and soldiers, always ready to defend the nation, was underscored as essential.
The Party leader suggested improving soldiers’ material and spiritual well-being, strengthening military-civil unity, supporting disaster prevention, and contributing to socio-economic development, thereby consolidating the people’s trust and reinforcing the country’s defence posture.
The General Secretary reminded that no matter how modern the weapons and equipment are, people remain the decisive factor. Therefore, true modernisation starts with officers and soldiers themselves, who must enhance their thinking, skills, and ability to apply science and technology effectively.
He also underscored the importance of effectively carrying out defence diplomacy with Laos, helping to strengthen the special friendship, deep solidarity, and comprehensive cooperation between the two Parties, States, and armed forces of Vietnam and Laos.
About 80 years ago, on October 15, 1945, President Ho Chi Minh signed a decree establishing 12 war zones across the country, including War Zone 4, the predecessor of today’s Armed Forces of Military Region 4. Since that historic milestone, October 15 each year has been celebrated as Traditional Day of the Armed Forces of Military Region 4.
