NA Chairman calls for closer coordination ahead of 2026 elections

VOV.VN - National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man has underscored the central role of the Vietnam Fatherland Front in preparations for the 2026 parliamentary elections, calling for closer coordination, comprehensive training and strict adherence to legal procedures to ensure a transparent and successful vote.

Chairman Man made the request during a Lunar New Year visit to the Presidium of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee on February 23, with discussions centering on preparations for the election of deputies to the 16th National Assembly and People’s Councils at all levels for the 2026–2031 term.

He commended the Front’s close coordination with the National Assembly Standing Committee and the National Election Council in organising consultative conferences in line with legal requirements and on schedule.

The early completion of the third consultative conference, adjusted to accommodate the Lunar New Year holiday, provides the basis for announcing the official list of candidates and advancing subsequent electoral procedures, he said.

Describing March as a critical period in the electoral calendar, the top legislator urged Front committees at all levels to further strengthen their core role in supervising and coordinating each stage of the process. He stressed that procedures must be implemented rigorously and consistently to avoid any errors.

A key priority is professional training for Front officials across 3,321 communes, wards and special administrative units nationwide. Standardising procedures and enhancing grassroots-level capacity were identified as decisive factors in ensuring consistency, accuracy and transparency throughout the system.

The National Assembly leader also encouraged the Front to intensify voter outreach efforts, helping citizens better understand their rights and obligations, while actively gathering and conveying public opinions and aspirations to the National Assembly and relevant authorities.

Vietnamese voters are scheduled to cast their ballots to elect deputies to the 16th National Assembly and grassroots-level People’s Councils for the 2026-2031 term on March 2026.
