PM launches construction of 72 boarding schools in border communes

VOV.VN - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on November 9 attended a groundbreaking ceremony in Yen Khuong commune, Thanh Hoa province, to commence the construction of 72 integrated boarding schools for primary and lower secondary levels in border communes nationwide.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Prime Minister affirmed that this is a major strategic policy that demonstrates the due attention of the Party and State to education and training in border, remote, and ethnic minority areas.

“These schools rising in the borderlands are not merely educational institutions but ‘fortresses of knowledge,’ representing the faith and aspirations of students, parents, and ethnic communities,” said the PM.

The Prime Minister called on the Ministry of Education and Training and local authorities to expedite construction with the highest determination and ensure both quality and progress.

He also urged continued comprehensive support for education in border regions, not only through infrastructure investment but also through policies for students and teachers, cultural development, and the creation of bright, green, clean, beautiful, and happy learning environments.

At other connected sites, delegates shared moving stories about the challenges facing education in border regions, such as Tri Le 4 School in Nghe An province that was once known as the “five-no” school: no electricity, no clean water, no health station, no mobile signal, and no female teachers. The construction of the new boarding school system is expected to bring a transformative breakthrough in improving education quality in these disadvantaged areas.

According to Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Kim Son, the project to build integrated boarding schools in land border communes marks the first phase of a broader plan to construct 248 schools nationwide. These schools will be modern and fully equipped, providing learning, accommodation, and living facilities for students, as well as housing for teachers, creating a holistic educational environment based on the “Virtue – Wisdom – Physical – Aesthetic” model.

As of November 9, 2025, 28 schools have already begun construction in provinces and cities such as Cao Bang, Lai Chau, Son La, Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, Quang Tri, Hue, and Da Nang. Under the plan, the first 100 schools are to be completed by August 30, 2026, in time for the 2026–2027 school year, followed by an additional 148 schools in the next 2–3 years.
