Public Security Force must strengthen strategic forecasting capabilities, PM says

Speaking at a conference reviewing the Public Security Force’s performance in the first half of 2026 and one year after the rollout of a two-tier local policing model aligned with Vietnam’s new administrative boundaries, the Prime Minister praised the force’s recently recorded achievements and called on police agencies to continue taking the lead in implementing the Party’s major guidelines and national development strategies.

According to the PM, improving strategic forecasting should become one of the force's top priorities.

Police agencies, he said, must not only identify potential risks but also analyse emerging trends and anticipate strategic developments to provide timely policy recommendations.

He highlighted several areas requiring close monitoring, including foreign investment, energy security, electricity and fuel supplies, as well as stalled investment projects that could be revived to support economic growth.

The Prime Minister also called for stronger grassroots security, urging police to resolve complicated land disputes and complaints before they escalate into social unrest.

He further emphasised the need to strengthen what he described as an “economic security shield” and a “cybersecurity firewall,” while expanding drug-free communities and intensifying efforts to reduce conventional crime.

The Government leader also underscored the importance of science, technology, innovation and digital transformation in strengthening national security. He said the Ministry of Public Security should accelerate the development of core, strategic and dual-use technologies, and at the same time enhance cybersecurity and protecting critical digital infrastructure.

He reiterated the goal of building a clean, disciplined, professional and modern Public Security Force capable of safeguarding national security and fostering a safe and stable environment for sustainable economic development.

He added that the force should not only combat crime and wrongdoing but also actively protect legitimate interests, strengthen public trust and contribute to Vietnam’s long-term development aspirations.

In his opening remarks, Minister of Public Security Luong Tam Quang said the Public Security Force has continued to demonstrate its political steadfastness and commitment to serving the Party and the people alongside implementing the ministry’s guiding principle of ‘discipline, responsibility, innovation in thinking and working methods.’

According to the minister, the force has successfully handled a significant workload over the past six months and during the first year of the new two-tier policing model, helping maintain national security and social order while contributing to a stable environment for socio-economic development. Police officers also played an active role in streamlining the administrative system and building a more modern, people-centred public administration.

National security event series promotes public role in safeguarding nation

The Ministry of Public Security and the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, on June 11 launched the "To quoc binh yen" (Peaceful homeland) event series to commemorate the 78th anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh's Call for Patriotic Emulation and towards the 80th traditional day of the people's security force.
