VOV.VN - German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and his wife arrived in Hanoi on January 23 morning, starting their two-day state visit to Vietnam at the invitation of President Vo Van Thuong and his spouse.
Those welcoming the German President and his delegation at Noi Bai International Airport included Chairman of the Presidential Office Le Khanh Hai, Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee Tran Sy Thanh, and Vietnamese Ambassador to Germany Vu Quang Minh, among others.
This is the first foreign visit of the German President in 2024 and the first high-level delegation exchange between the two countries this year - a pivotal year towards the 50th founding anniversary of bilateral diplomatic ties in 2025.
He is scheduled to meet with Vietnam’s top leaders to discuss a score of measures to boost bilateral cooperation in a multitude of fields, and compare notes on international issues of shared concern.
The President is also set to visit several German projects in Ho Chi Minh City and its surrounding areas.
VOV.VN - The bilateral relationship between Vietnam and Germany has flourished across multiple fields since diplomatic ties were first set up in September, 1975, with ties subsequently lifted to a strategic partnership in October, 2011.
Chairwoman of the Parliamentary Friendship Group for Relations with the ASEAN States Gabriele Katzmarek highlighted Germany-Vietnam relations while granting an interview to Vietnam News Agency correspondents in Berlin ahead of President Frank-Walter Steinmeier’s state visit to Vietnam on January 23-24.
