VOV.VN - Japanese Foreign Minister Yoko Kamikawa will pay a visit to Vietnam on October 10-11 as part of her Southeast Asian tour, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam.
The visit has been made at the invitation of Vietnamese Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son, the ministry said in an announcement on October 6.
This is Kamikawa’s first visit to Vietnam after she was appointed head of Japanese diplomacy by Prime Minister Kishida Fumio.
While staying in Hanoi, Minister Kamikawa is expected to hold talks with Minister Son and have meetings with senior Vietnamese leaders.
Japan is Vietnam’s leading economic partner, largest in ODA aid provision, second largest in labour cooperation, third largest in investment and tourism, and fourth largest in trade. Two-way trade last year reached nearly US$50 billion, including US$24.2 billion from Vietnamese exports.
Vietnam is one of Kamikawa’s stopovers during her Southeast Asian tour from October 8 to 13 that also takes her to Brunei, Laos and Thailand.
Japan will hold a Commemorative Summit marking 50 years of ASEAN-Japan Friendship and Cooperation in December this year.
