Leaders discuss ways to deepen Vietnam-Thailand Comprehensive Strategic Partnership

VOV.VN - Party General Secretary and State President To Lam and Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul discussed measures to further deepen and enhance the effectiveness of the Vietnam-Thailand Comprehensive Strategic Partnership during their meeting in Hanoi on June 9.

Receiving Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, who is on an official visit to Vietnam and attending the third ASEAN Future Forum, the top leader showed great joy at meeting the Thai leader again following his official visit to Thailand in late May.

To Lam highlighted the significance of Prime Minister Anutin’s visit, which takes place as bilateral relations continue to develop strongly and as both nations mark the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations. He expressed confidence that the visit will contribute to the deeper, more substantive and effective development of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

In response, PM Anutin said he was pleased to be making his first official visit to Vietnam and thanked the Vietnamese leadership and people for their warm reception.

He conveyed greetings from the King and Queen of Thailand to To Lam and his spouse, and said the Vietnamese leader’s recent visit to Thailand had been highly successful, leaving a very positive impression on the Thai people, while opening up new directions for cooperation and adding fresh impetus to bilateral ties.

At the meeting, PM Anutin briefed To Lam on the outcomes of his talks with PM Le Minh Hung. He said both sides had agreed on specific measures to carry out agreements reached by both nations’ senior leaders, particularly the outcomes of To Lam’s recent official visit to Thailand.

The Thai PM affirmed that Thailand always regards Vietnam as a close neighbour and trusted partner. He noted that the Thai delegation includes three deputy prime ministers, six ministers, commanders of military services and senior officials from ministries and agencies, reflecting Thailand’s importance attached to and desire to further strengthen and develop relations with Vietnam across all fields.

Discussing future cooperation, To Lam proposed that both nations continue consolidating political trust and expanding cooperation in economics, defence and security, and people-to-people exchanges through increased exchanges and contacts at all levels. He also called for broader cooperation across all channels and the effective maintenance of existing bilateral cooperation mechanisms, especially the Joint Cabinet Retreat mechanism.

The Vietnamese leader affirmed that the Communist Party of Vietnam attaches importance to and wishes to boost cooperation with political parties in Thailand, including the Bhumjaithai Party, thereby helping reinforce the political foundation and long-term orientation of bilateral relations.

The Thai PM expressed strong support for the directions proposed by To Lam and affirmed his commitment to advancing the “Three Connectivity” Strategy.

He said his nation will work closely with Vietnam to strengthen economic, trade and investment ties, connectivity in infrastructure, logistics and supply chains, and cooperation in science and technology, innovation, digital transformation, the digital economy and artificial intelligence.

The two sides will work towards balanced and sustainable growth in bilateral trade, with a target of reaching US$25 billion and, in the longer term, US$50 billion.

They will also expand cooperation through Party, parliamentary and people-to-people channels while continuing close coordination within multilateral mechanisms, including ASEAN, the United Nations, APEC and Mekong subregional cooperation mechanisms, thereby contributing to peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and the world.
