Party chief arrives in Pyongyang for state visit to DPRK

VOV.VN - General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee To Lam and a high-ranking delegation of Vietnam arrived at Pyongyang International Airport on October 9 morning for a state visit to the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) at the invitation of General Secretary of the Workers’ Party of Korea (WPK) and President of the State Affairs of the DPRK Kim Jong Un.

Those in welcoming the Vietnamese leader and delegation at the airport included alternate member of the Politburo, member of the State Affairs Commission and Director of the International Department of the WPK Central Committee Kim Song Nam, and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Im Chon In.

Vietnamese Ambassador to the DPRK Le Ba Vinh and Vietnamese Embassy staff were also present to welcome General Secretary To Lam and his delegation.

General Secretary To Lam’s state visit to the DPRK and attendance at the celebration of the 80th founding anniversary of the Workers’ Party of Korea takes place at a pivotal time for each Party, each country, and their bilateral relations.

Vietnam has recently successfully held major events in 2025, including the 95th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of Vietnam, the 50th anniversary of the liberation of the South and national reunification, the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution, and the 80th National Day (September 2).

The country is striving to fulfill the goals and tasks set by the 13th National Party Congress’s Resolution, reviewing 40 years of pursuing the Doi Moi (renewal) process, and focusing on preparations for the 14th National Party Congress.

Meanwhile, the DPRK is focusing on preparations for activities marking the 80th founding anniversary of the Workers’ Party of Korea (October 10, 1945 – October 10, 2025), accelerating progress toward fulfilling the goals set by the Party’s 8th Congress, and expediting preparations for the 9th Congress.

Therefore, the visit will serve as a significant milestone in each country’s cause of national building and development, and in the flourishing traditional friendship between Vietnam and the DPRK.

General Secretary To Lam’s visit further reaffirms the foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, multilateralization, diversification, and proactive, extensive, and effective international integration as set forth by the 13th National Party Congress.

It also reflects the implementation of the Politburo’s Resolution No. 34 on major orientations for carrying out the Party’s foreign policy; Conclusion No. 71 dated February 16, 2024 on key tasks and solutions for realizing the 13th Congress’s foreign policy; Resolution No. 57 dated December 22, 2024 on breakthroughs in science-technology development, innovation, and national digital transformation; and Resolution No. 59 dated January 24, 2025 on international integration in the new context.

Party leader’s state visit to the DPRK takes place as both nations are celebrating the 75th anniversary of their diplomatic ties and their Friendship Year 2025, vividly showing the importance that the two Parties and States attach to the long-standing ties between the nations. It demonstrates Vietnam’s consistent foreign policy of treasuring relations with the countries it shares traditional friendship with.

Over the past 75 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations (January 31, 1950 – January 31, 2025), the traditional friendship between the two Parties and peoples of Vietnam and the DPRK, personally founded and carefully nurtured by President Ho Chi Minh and President Kim Il Sung, has overcome numerous hardships and historical ups and downs. It has been inherited and continuously strengthened by successive generations of leaders of both sides.
