VOV.VN - Party General Secretary To Lam and his spouse, along with a senior Vietnamese delegation, joined the grand 50th National Day celebration at ThatLuang Square in Vientiane on December 2, sharing the occasion with the people of Laos.
In his speech, General Secretary of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party and President Thongloun Sisoulith highlighted that 50 years ago, this very location was where revolutionary forces and patriotic citizens gathered to seize power in the capital, leading to the national congress declaration that abolished colonial and feudal rule and established the Lao People’s Democratic Republic on December 2, 1975.
“This historic event profoundly changed the fate of our nation and society, opening a new era of building our beloved country, advancing swiftly and steadily on the path of independence, autonomy, unity, and prosperity, ensuring a warm, free, and happy life for the Lao people of all ethnicities,” he said.
Reflecting on this landmark victory and the establishment of a new regime across the country and worldwide, Thongloun Sisoulith paid tribute to the heroic sacrifices of President Kaysone Phomvihane, President Souphanouvong, and the leaders, soldiers, heroes, party members, officials, and citizens of all ethnic groups in Laos who bravely fought for national liberation.
On this important occasion, on behalf of the Lao Party, State, and people, Thongloun Sisoulith warmly welcomed and sincerely thanked international friends, development partners, international organizations, and social organizations for their support and cooperation over the past five decades in Laos’s nation-building and development.
The General Secretary emphasized that the past 50 years have been a process of founding, continuously perfecting, and developing the Lao People’s Democratic Republic. This achievement stems from long, arduous struggles, patriotic spirit, revolutionary movements, and the sacrifices of previous generations, combined with precious international support, particularly the solidarity and strategic alliance of the three Indochinese countries, Laos, Vietnam, and Cambodia, culminating in the great victory summarized by President Kaysone Phomvihane as “Long struggle, great victory.”
Over the past half-century, Laos has firmly upheld its revolutionary traditions, learning from its history to lead the country forward: “Adhering to socialist ideals, promoting national unity to strengthen the people’s democratic regime, building socialism based on the people, by the people, and for the people, with all state power genuinely belonging to the people, and striving for their happiness.”
This principle remains the enduring aspiration of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party and its citizens. The next generation is expected to continue this commitment in guiding the country’s revolutionary path.
In the context of a rapidly changing, complex, and challenging regional and global landscape, Thongloun Sisoulith reaffirmed that Laos will continue a peaceful, independent, friendly, and cooperative foreign policy, strengthening relations with friendly and strategic partners, developing an independent economy, and pursuing balanced, sustainable growth across economic, cultural, social, and environmental dimensions.
Laos aims to achieve the political objectives set out in the Party’s Political Platform: by 2055, the centenary of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party, the country should attain upper-middle-income status, a strong political system, modern economic foundations, fully developed productive forces, advanced social relations, and ensure a basic standard of living, progressing toward prosperity for all citizens.
Thongloun Sisoulith affirmed that the nation will continue to protect and uphold its revolutionary achievements and victories over the past 50 years with unwavering dedication and the steadfast ideals of successive generations.
Following the speech, a grand and solemn parade of armed forces, ministries, agencies, and socio-political organizations took place, vividly demonstrating the achievements across social, economic, and defence sectors that the Lao Party and people have accomplished over the past 50 years.
General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee To Lam and his spouse, together with the high-level Vietnamese delegation, attended a state banquet hosted by General Secretary of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party (LPRP) and President of Laos Thongloun Sisoulith and his spouse in Vientiane.
