PM Hung calls for strong determination to achieve double-digit growth target
VOV.VN - The targets set for the first half and the whole of 2026 are particularly demanding and will require strong determination and major efforts to achieve double-digit economic growth, Prime Minister Le Minh Hung has emphasized.
Chairing the Government's regular monthly meeting for May on June 3, PM Hung said law-making work had recorded highly positive progress in April and May, with intensive efforts helping accelerate the improvement of institutions and the legal framework.
Draft laws scheduled for submission to the National Assembly at thematic sessions and year-end meetings have been actively accelerated. Initial progress has also been made in dealing with the backlog of legal documents, as the issuance of government decrees, implementing circulars and government resolutions has improved markedly.
However, Hung said the workload in the coming period would remain heavy. If the entire system fails to maintain its current sense of urgency, delays could re-emerge, affecting the timely institutionalisation and implementation of Party policies and National Assembly directives.
On socio-economic development, the Government leader pointed to a number of positive developments over the past year, including macroeconomic stability, balanced major economic indicators and, in particular, easing inflationary pressures.
He stressed, however, that macroeconomic management must not become complacent and that inflation must continue to be closely monitored and effectively controlled.
Industry, exports and imports, agriculture, trade and services have all made positive contributions, although some sectors have yet to meet expectations. Growth scenarios for both the first half and the full year show that exceptionally demanding tasks lie ahead and will require strong determination and major efforts to meet the double-digit growth target, Hung stressed.
The Government will issue a resolution immediately after the May meeting, assigning specific tasks to each minister and agency head, he added.
Deputy PMs and the PM himself will also work directly with ministries, sectors and localities to promptly reactivate growth drivers that remain below potential, particularly by reversing declines in several key export products and promoting industrial and agricultural production.
Regarding the implementation of strategic resolutions, particularly Resolution 57 on breakthroughs in science and technology development, innovation and national digital transformation, Hung commended the Ministry of Public Security and the Ministry of Science and Technology for introducing innovative approaches that have delivered initial results.
To meet long-term development requirements, PM Hung called for the comprehensive improvement of institutions and the creation of the most favourable possible legal environment for science, technology and innovation.
He also urged the development of interconnected infrastructure systems linking central agencies, ministries, sectors and localities; the establishment of a clearly defined list of strategic products and technologies aimed at producing final products; and a stronger focus on training, which he highlighted as a key factor in creating new momentum for the economy.
