PM meets Vietnam’s representative missions and Vietnamese community in Kuwait

Vietnamese Ambassador to Kuwait Nguyen Duc Thang reported to PM Chinh and his delegation that although the community is relatively small, Vietnamese nationals in Kuwait are making active contributions to the country’s economic development and social life.

They work across a range of sectors, including a notable number of Vietnamese experts who have been engaged for many years in Kuwait’s core oil and gas industry and in several international petroleum corporations.

He said the community preserves its cultural identity, projects an image of dynamic and friendly Vietnamese nationals, and complies with local laws. Proud of Vietnam’s development achievements and its growing position, the community maintains close ties with the homeland. Alongside fulfilling tasks that support Vietnam-Kuwait relations, the Vietnamese Embassy in Kuwait regularly launches numerous activities to connect, support and protect citizens, and links the community with the home country.

Vietnamese community representatives expressed delight and deep pride in welcoming the Prime Minister and his spouse; thanked the Party and State for consistent attention to overseas Vietnamese; and affirmed that each individual strives to be a “messenger” of Vietnam’s image, not only through work and daily life but also by acting as a cultural and economic bridge between Vietnam and Kuwait.

Proud of Vietnam’s achievements and committed to contributing to Vietnam-Kuwait ties as well as socio-economic development at home, community members proposed that the Party and State continue facilitating easier access to online public services, consider opening a direct air route between the two countries, adopt more open visa policies, and step up promotion of Vietnamese tourism and culture. They also suggested expanding products suited to the Middle Eastern market such as high-end beach tourism, family resorts, shopping services, healthcare and wellness, and particularly Halal cuisine to meet the needs of Muslim visitors.

Engaging in dialogue to understand more deeply the community’s life, work, study and integration in Kuwait, as well as their expectations and sentiments, PM Chinh conveyed warm greetings on behalf of Party and State leaders, including Party General Secretary To Lam.

Updating the community on Vietnam-Kuwait relations, the Government leader noted that Kuwait was the first member of the Gulf Cooperation Council and among the earliest Middle Eastern nations to establish diplomatic ties with Vietnam shortly after the country’s reunification in 1975. The two countries have consistently respected, supported and assisted each other and share common views on various regional and international issues.

He stressed that his current visit carries important significance as the two countries enjoy strong friendship and effective cooperation. The two sides will discuss upgrading bilateral ties to a new level and sign several key cooperation agreements.

Briefing on the country’s progress, he recalled that after 80 years of independence and decades of war, embargo and nearly 40 years of renovation, Vietnam has transformed from a poor, underdeveloped nation into the world’s 32nd-largest economy, with its happiness index rising 37 places over the past five years. Vietnam and its people are increasingly respected globally. Numerous major domestic events and cultural activities have recently been held, enabling people to enjoy the country’s achievements.

Despite complex and unpredictable global and regional developments this year, with challenges outweighing opportunities, Vietnam’s socio-economic performance in 2025 continues to show positive results, with all 15 key targets expected to be met or exceeded.

Vietnam has maintained macroeconomic stability and achieved breakthroughs in socio-economic infrastructure, while also advancing administrative reform and improving the business environment. Living standards have continued to rise, alongside firm political and social stability and strong attention to social security. National defense, security and territorial integrity have been reinforced, and external relations as well as international integration have deepened in a more substantive manner, making Vietnam a bright spot.

PM Chinh affirmed that both past and present achievements bear the contributions and support of Vietnamese communities worldwide, including those in Kuwait.

Sharing Vietnam’s two long-term centennial goals, he said the Politburo has recently issued and carried out several strategic resolutions to steer the country into a new era of prosperity, modernity and happiness.

He hailed the Vietnamese community in Kuwait for their solidarity, mutual support, stable livelihoods and strong integration. PM Chinh reaffirmed that the Party and State always attach great importance to overseas Vietnamese, considering them an inseparable part and a vital resource of the Vietnamese nation. A wide range of policies has been adopted to support and protect their legitimate rights and interests.

He instructed ministries, sectors and especially Vietnamese embassies, including the mission in Kuwait, to develop mechanisms and contact points for the community to connect, particularly in times of difficulty, and to help build a stronger, more cohesive community that contributes to national development and bilateral ties. He also said he would ask Kuwaiti leaders to continue creating favorable conditions for Vietnamese nationals to live, work and integrate smoothly, serving as a bridge for friendship and cooperation.

Acknowledging the community’s concerns and proposals, the Government leader directed relevant agencies to take stronger measures to meet their legitimate expectations. He placed special emphasis on opening a direct Vietnam-Kuwait air route, adopting more open and convenient visa policies, providing information on investment, trade and tourism promotion, and tapping into the Halal market.

He urged the community to remain united, build a strong and respected presence, preserve and promote Vietnamese cultural identity and language, and strive for excellence in work and study to contribute to national development. He encouraged associations to continue connecting overseas Vietnamese and building networks of Vietnamese businesses in Kuwait.

On the occasion, PM Chinh and his spouse presented gifts from the homeland to encourage the Vietnamese community in Kuwait.

During the trip to Kuwait, the Vietnamese PM is scheduled to meet with Emir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, hold talks with Kuwaiti PM Sheikh Ahmad Al-Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, and receive several ministers and executives of major Kuwaiti conglomerates. The Vietnamese Government chief will visit several socio-economic establishments and deliver a speech at the Kuwait Diplomatic Institute.

Both sides will discuss directions, measures, and a broader framework for stronger future cooperation with a view to reinforcing bilateral relations and elevate them to a new level.

New momentum expected from PM’s upcoming visit to Kuwait

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh will begin an overseas tour on November 16-24 with a stop in Kuwait, the first visit by a Vietnamese Government leader in 16 years and timed ahead of the 50th anniversary of diplomatic ties (January 10) next year.
