VOV.VN - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on October 28 joined leaders of ASEAN member states at the closing ceremony of the 47th ASEAN Summit and related high-level meetings in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, as well as the handover of the ASEAN Chair from Malaysia to the Philippines.
After three days of intensive work with more than 20 activities, the summit concluded successfully.
In his closing remarks, Malaysian PM Anwar Ibrahim thanked member states and partners for their substantive contributions and persistent efforts, describing the summit as guided by perseverance and sound judgment in a turbulent moment.
Key outcomes will strengthen regional integration, enhance ASEAN’s collective capacity and position, and promote the goal of an inclusive and sustainable ASEAN Community in 2025, preparing the bloc to move confidently into its next phase of development with 11 members. The conclusions of the ASEAN-partner meetings further affirmed ASEAN’s central role and reinforced its external relations for peace, stability, and development.
Upon assuming the ASEAN Chair in 2026, Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. announced the theme “Navigating our future together,” with three priorities, including consolidating peace and security, enhancing prosperity corridors, and promoting people empowerment.
The Vietnamese delegation, led by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, actively participated in nearly 20 multilateral activities, sharing key directions shaping ASEAN’s future. Bilateral meetings further strengthened Vietnam’s relations with partners, with proposals and initiatives focusing on a united, resilient, inclusive, and sustainable ASEAN Community, centered on people and linking national development with regional progress.
Vietnam continues to demonstrate a proactive, responsible role, thereby contributing to intra-ASEAN solidarity and enhancing ASEAN’s centrality for peace, stability, cooperation, and development in the region.
This marked the final activity of PM Pham Minh Chinh during his official visit to attend the 47th ASEAN Summit and related meetings from October 2628, at the invitation of Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim. Chinh and his delegation returned home, concluding the visit successfully in the evening the same day.
Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Hoai Trung held separate meetings with his Lao and Indian counterparts in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on October 27, on the occasion of the 47th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh called on the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and United Nations (UN) to effectively implement their plan of action for 2026–2030, while proposing key areas of cooperation to further deepen the ties at the 15th ASEAN – UN Summit held in Kuala Lumpur on October 27.
