VOV.VN - A high-level delegation from the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF), led by Politburo member, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, and VFF President Do Van Chien, held meetings on July 28 with leaders of the Komeito Party and the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), which make up Japan’s ruling coalition.
During his meeting with Saito Tetsuo, President of the Komeito Party, Do Van Chien expressed his appreciation for Japan and its people, and highly valued the substantive progress in bilateral ties. He also thanked Japan for its support, particularly its provision of official development assistance (ODA), noting that Japanese ODA has contributed positively to the development of Vietnam’s mountainous areas and ethnic minority communities.
Chien expressed confidence that Vietnam-Japan relations would continue to grow stronger in the time ahead.
For his part, Saito showed warm sentiments toward Vietnam and a deep respect for Japan–Vietnam relations. He hailed the Vietnamese community in Japan for its great contributions to the country’s development.
“Japan and Vietnam share a profound relationship spanning more than 400 years. Today as well, the Vietnamese community, currently the second largest among foreign communities in Japan, is working alongside the Japanese people to spur socioeconomic development. We hope to further strengthen and deepen our relationship with Vietnam,” Saito stated.
Following the meeting with the Komeito leader, Do Van Chien and the VFF delegation met with Obuchi Yuko, Chair of the Japan–Vietnam Parliamentary Friendship Alliance.
Chien hailed the Alliance’s important role as well as Obuchi’s personal contributions to pushing up bilateral cooperation.
Obuchi welcomed the increasingly active and effective high-level exchanges between the two countries and affirmed her continued commitment to forging bilateral ties. She also said that she would visit Vietnam this August for the first time in her capacity as Chair of the Japan–Vietnam Parliamentary Friendship Alliance.
According to the delegation’s agenda, Chien and the VFF delegation were also scheduled to meet, later on July 28, with Gemba Koichiro, Vice Speaker of Japan’s House of Representatives, and Chairman of the Presidium of the Japanese Communist Party (JCP) Central Committee Shii Kazuo, along with carrying out other important activities.
State President Luong Cuong on June 6 hosted a reception for Japanese Ambassador to Vietnam Ito Naoki, during which he affirmed that Japan remains a key partner and a top priority in Vietnam's foreign policy.
