VOV.VN - Ahead of General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee and President To Lam's visit to Russia, Russian experts expect the visit to provide fresh impetus for bilateral ties, transforming traditional friendship into concrete cooperation outcomes that match Vietnam's new standing and potential.
Having maintained ties with Vietnam for over 30 years, including 10 years working directly in the country, Daria Mishukova, author of numerous works introducing Vietnamese land, culture, and people, has witnessed the nation's transformation across various developmental stages. Her first book, "Vietnam, the Land of the Dragon and Fairy Descendants," has been reprinted four times in Vietnam in both Russian and Vietnamese editions. She subsequently published several other books on Vietnam, two of which were honored at the 2025 National External Information Service Awards.
Viewing the visit through the broader historical span of bilateral relations, what Daria particularly anticipates now is for these foundations to be translated into more concrete outcomes in bilateral cooperation.
According to Daria Mishukova, bilateral trade and economics represent an area with substantial untapped potential. She expect clearer progress in trade, investment, and the practical implementation of projects. Commenting on Vietnam's double-digit growth target, Daria expressed confidence in the country's ability to realize this objective.
"I have 30 years of experience in Vietnamese studies and understand that this is not just political rhetoric. This is a set target, and Vietnam will devote all its available resources to achieving it. It is an objective enshrined in official state documents," Mishukova stated.
From the perspective of Evgeny Vlasov, Vice President for International Relations and Director of the Oriental Institute at Far Eastern Federal University, as well as Chairman of the Russia-Vietnam Friendship Association, the visit takes place as Vietnam-Russia relations are in a favorable phase of development characterized by a high degree of political trust.
Vlasov particularly highlighted the shifts in Vietnam's potential and standing. He noted that while Vietnam previously faced constraints regarding financial resources, infrastructure, human capital, and technology, the country has now emerged as a strong partner equipped with its own technology, resources, and workforce. Furthermore, Vietnam's standing within ASEAN and the broader Asia-Pacific region is continuously being consolidated.
Regarding the specific outcomes of the visit, Vlasov places high expectations on science and technology, noting that the two countries are well-positioned to expand joint research on emerging technologies, connecting Russian research achievements with the capabilities and participation of Vietnamese partners.
Additionally, he stated that the visit will help generate further momentum for locality-to-locality cooperation, specifically by bringing businesse and implementers into deeper engagement with bilateral relations.
"I hope that the political friendship and mutual trust currently shared by the leaders of both countries will permeate all levels of cooperation. Because if the leaders sign an agreement, that is only part of the story. If that spirit and trust are transmitted down to every level, to those directly implementing projects, and even to ordinary citizens, the results will undoubtedly reach an entirely different level, while providing a stronger impetus for bilateral trade and economic growth," Vlasov expressed.
General Secretary and President To Lam's visit continues to carry high expectations for new strides in Vietnam-Russia relations, opening up substantive, effective cooperation opportunities that better correspond to the potentials of both countries. Through this, the Vietnam-Russia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership will be further deepened, making a positive contribution to peace, stability, cooperation, and development in the region and globally.
General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee and President To Lam said he believes that the comprehensive strategic partnership with Russia would continue to develop strongly, substantively and effectively.
