Unidad y Luch, the mouthpiece of the Communist Party of the Peoples of Spain (PCPE), has recently published an article praising the Vietnamese army and people's Dien Bien Phu Victory on May 7, 1954, which "resounded across the five continents and shook the globe", referring to it as Vietnam's World War II battle of Stalingrad.
The article said in the chronicles of revolutionary victories that can be classified as global heritage, Dien Bien Phu was one of the decisive battles that changed the course of the struggle for colonial peoples in Indochina seeking liberation from the French rule.
It highlighted the military genius of General Vo Nguyen Giap, crediting his leadership for securing victory at Dien Bien Phu. This triumph, it argued, significantly influenced the outcomes of the 1954 Geneva Accords, which brought peace to the Indochinese region.
Analysing lessons learnt from the victory, the newspaper described them as evidence of the enduring value of the event, which has become a shining milestone in the history of the Vietnamese nation, a source of national pride and an inspiration for global liberation movements.
On the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu Victory (May 7, 1954 – 2024), Algerian Minister of Mujahideen (War Veterans) and Rights Holders Laid Rebiga granted an interview to VietnamPlus E-newspaper, sharing the significance and similarities in the national liberation movement between the two nations.
