Third Vietnam-Laos Border Defence Friendship Exchange gets underway

At the Nam On Border Gate in Laos, General Khamliang Outhakaysone, Politburo member of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence of Laos, presided over a welcoming ceremony for General Phan Van Giang, Politburo member, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence of Vietnam, and the high-level delegation from Vietnam's Ministry of National Defence attending activities under the third Vietnam-Laos Border Defence Friendship Exchange.

At the border gate, the two Deputy Prime Ministers and defence ministers took part in a broad array of ceremonial activities, including official greetings, repainting the border marker, planting a friendship tree and posing for commemorative photographs, demonstrating their shared commitment to maintaining a peaceful, friendly and cooperative border.

Following successful exchanges in 2021 and 2024, the Vietnam-Laos Border Defence Friendship Exchange has become an important defence diplomacy activity, contributing to stronger cooperation among border protection forces, local authorities and people in border areas of the two countries, while continuing to promote the special solidarity between Vietnam and Laos.

The third Vietnam-Laos Border Defence Friendship Exchange takes place as the two countries prepare to mark the 49th anniversary of the signing of the Vietnam-Laos Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation (July 18, 1977 – July 18, 2026), thereby reaffirming their determination to strengthen defence cooperation and build a peaceful, stable and developing border.
