Top leader To Lam wishes for international support for Vietnam’s AI ecosystem

VOV.VN - Party General Secretary and State President To Lam called for continued international support to help Vietnam develop its artificial intelligence ecosystem, during a meeting with former Google Chairman and CEO Eric Schmidt and a delegation of artificial intelligence (AI) experts in Hanoi on June 5.

At the meeting, the top Vietnamese leader welcomed Schmidt and the delegation to Vietnam and hailed Schmidt’s contributions to the development of technology and AI globally. He also appreciated Schmidt’s and the delegation’s close coordination with Vietnamese agencies in implementing programmes on AI, high technology and innovation in recent times.

The Party chief and State President said Vietnam is accelerating efforts to renew its growth model, with science and technology, innovation and digital transformation serving as key drivers to enhance competitiveness, promote rapid and sustainable development, and achieve its goal of becoming a developed, high-income country by 2045.

In that spirit, he called on Schmidt and the delegation to continue supporting Vietnam in shaping its vision, policies and ecosystem for AI development, while helping connect international resources, technology companies, investment funds, research institutions and leading experts to support the country’s human resource development, technology enterprises and innovation capacity.

To Lam also encouraged members of the delegation, including Christopher Nguyen, Chief Executive Officer of Aitomatic, to continue mobilising overseas Vietnamese experts, intellectuals and technology entrepreneurs to contribute knowledge, experience and resources to Vietnam’s development.

Schmidt said he was honoured to be received by To Lam and spoke highly of Vietnam’s development achievements as well as the vision and determination of its leaders, particularly in science, technology and innovation.

Vietnam has favourable conditions for AI development, especially its young and dynamic workforce, strong adaptability and an increasingly supportive environment for innovation, Schmidt told To Lam. He expressed confidence that AI will make greater contribution to the country’s economic growth.

At the meeting, Schmidt said he is working with Vietnamese partners on a number of AI initiatives, including the Tapestry national multimodal model project, the Data OS data and physical production project, and AI applications in general education.

He affirmed that he will draw on his experience and extensive technology network to connect Vietnam with suitable partners, supporting the country’s digital transformation, AI development and innovation capacity.

The former Google chairman also expressed his desire to continue discussions with Vietnamese agencies, businesses, research institutes, universities and experts to explore practical cooperation in human resource training, research and development, support for technology enterprises and the application of AI across socio-economic sectors.

There is significant room for cooperation between Vietnamese and US partners, as well as partners around the world, Schmidt went on, while affirming that he will continue to make greater effort to making practical contributions to the development of science, technology and AI in Vietnam.
