VOV.VN - Vietnam and Austria are looking to expand cooperation in diplomatic education, research and academic exchanges as part of efforts to develop a highly qualified foreign affairs workforce capable of meeting the demands of an increasingly complex international environment.
During a recent meeting with Dr. Martin Eichtinger, director of the Diplomatic Academy of Vienna, Vietnamese Ambassador to Austria Vu Le Thai Hoang proposed strengthening cooperation between the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam and its Austrian counterpart in research, training and professional development for diplomatic personnel.
According to the Ambassador, the recent 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam identified the development of a comprehensive, modern and internationally competitive diplomatic workforce as a key task in Vietnam’s foreign affairs strategy for the new development period.
In this context, the ambassador suggested that the two institutions expand cooperation through joint conferences, student and faculty exchanges, and the sharing of training experiences. He also invited Austrian participation in major international events hosted by Vietnam, including the ASEAN Future Forum, the Mekong Forum and international conferences on the East Sea.
Dr. Eichtinger, for his part, praised Vietnam’s socio-economic and foreign affairs achievements, emphasising that investment in diplomatic human resources is increasingly important amid growing global uncertainty and geopolitical shifts.
He noted that the Diplomatic Academy of Vienna is among Europe’s leading institutions specialising in diplomacy and international relations, offering programmes in international relations, international history, international economics, international law and European Union studies.
The academy currently trains students from 64 countries through certificate, master's and doctoral programmes covering international studies, environmental technology, international relations and international relations in the digital age.
Eichtinger expressed interest in enhancing cooperation with the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam through student and faculty exchanges, joint research initiatives and specialised seminars on ASEAN and other issues of mutual concern.
The meeting took place in Vienna, one of the world’s leading centers for multilateral diplomacy and the birthplace of the Vienna Conventions, which form a cornerstone of modern international law and diplomatic practice.
Greater cooperation between Vietnam’s and Austria’s diplomatic training institutions is expected to create new opportunities for academic exchange and access to international best practices, contributing to the development of a highly skilled diplomatic workforce and supporting Vietnam’s integration and development goals in the years ahead.
