14 people survive as boat capsizes in central Vietnam

The incident happened on the morning on the Truong Hai river in Nui Thanh District.

The boat sank just a few meters from the shore, allowing all passengers to swim to safety. However, many motorcycles and personal belongings were lost with the boat.

Authorities confirmed that the self-propelled boat was privately owned and had been licensed by the authorities, with its river-crossing passenger service extended until the end of August 2027.

Relevant forces are actively recovering the lost assets. They are also investigating the cause of the capsize to prevent similar occurrences in the future and to ensure the safety of boat services in the area.
