VOV.VN - All 34 passengers and the driver of a sleeper bus escaped unharmed after the vehicle caught fire in Vietnam’s central Dak Lak province in the early hours of February 12, local authorities said.
The incident occurred at around 2 a.m. when the interprovincial bus was traveling northbound on National Highway 1.
According to police, smoke and flames were first detected from the rear of the bus as it passed through Phu Khe 2 village. The driver, 38, from Thanh Hoa province, immediately pulled over to the roadside and alerted passengers to evacuate.
Despite initial panic as the fire broke out during the night, all passengers were safely evacuated before the blaze engulfed the vehicle. No injuries were reported.
The fire quickly spread and completely destroyed the bus, leaving only its metal frame. Initial property damage is estimated at approximately VND3 billion (around US$120,000).
Affected passengers were later transferred to another vehicle to continue their journey.
Dak Lak authorities launched an investigation to determine the cause of the fire.
