VOV.VN - The Criminal Police Department of Ha Tinh province, in coordination with Philippine authorities, has dismantled a cross-border fraud ring worth hundreds of billions of VND, arresting 56 suspects.
Initial investigations revealed that from late 2023 to early 2024, several Vietnamese citizens traveled to the Philippines to work for a Chinese-run fraud operation based in Manila.
The scammers created fake Facebook accounts, posing as wealthy entrepreneurs and flaunting lavish lifestyles to gain the trust of their victims.
After establishing contact, they convinced victims to download the "UNISAT" app and invest a minimum of VND8 million in cryptocurrency, promising high returns in a short period.
Once they had amassed a significant sum, the fraudsters withdrew all the funds and cut off all communication with their victims.
A further investigation into the case is now underway.
