VOV.VN - Researchers, businesses and policymakers from Australia, Vietnam and several other countries will gather in November for an international symposium aimed at strengthening collaboration in agricultural innovation, technology transfer and sustainable food systems.
The Australia–Vietnam Symposium on Agricultural Innovation and Food Security 2026 (AVAS2026) is scheduled to take place at Murdoch University in Perth, Western Australia, on November 24. The symposium seeks to deepen scientific cooperation between Australia and Vietnam in agricultural research, innovation and technology transfer while providing a platform for universities, research institutes, businesses and government agencies to develop new partnerships and collaborative projects.
AVAS2026 will focus on sustainable agriculture and climate resilience; plant biotechnology, genomics and synthetic biology; food science, nutrition and emerging technologies; and research translation, agribusiness and development policy. These areas are considered critical to improving agricultural productivity, strengthening food security and building more resilient farming systems.
A highlight of the programme will be a panel discussion titled “Building Australia–Vietnam Partnerships for Agricultural Innovation and Food Security,” bringing together representatives from universities, businesses and government agencies to explore technology transfer, research commercialisation, university-industry collaboration, agricultural value chains and innovation policy.
In addition to technical sessions, AVAS2026 will feature Lightning Oral Presentations for PhD candidates, master's students, postdoctoral researchers and early-career scientists, providing opportunities to present research, receive feedback from international experts and expand academic networks.
Outstanding presentations will receive awards, while organisers also plan to introduce the VASEA-WA Early Career Researcher Travel Award, offering grants of up to AUD1,000, subject to funding availability.
The symposium will also invite researchers, lecturers, industry experts and students to submit abstracts across the four thematic areas, encouraging broader academic participation and fostering new collaborative research initiatives between Australia and Vietnam.
Ahead of the main event, an online international research workshop will be held on November 22, allowing scientists from Australia, Vietnam and other countries to engage in technical discussions.
With free registration and a hybrid format, the organisers expect the symposium to reach a broader global research community and help generate long-term partnerships among universities, research institutes, businesses and government agencies in both countries, contributing to agricultural innovation and global food security.
