VOV.VN - The Chinese military has accepted an invitation to participate in a military parade marking Vietnam’s 80th National Day, and Chinese troops are expected to arrive in Hanoi in late August, according to a senior military officer of Vietnam.
Major General Tong Van Thanh, Deputy Director of the Department of Propaganda and Training under the General Political Department under the Vietnam People’s Army, unveiled the information at the inauguration of the Press Centre for the coming exhibition on Vietnam’s 80-year development journey, in Hanoi on August 22.
According to General Thanh, the Ministry of National Defence has invited the militaries of four countries, namely Russia, China, Cambodia, and Laos, to participate in the parade. Russia, Laos, and Cambodia have already sent their contingents to Vietnam between August 15 and 20, and they took part in the first joint rehearsal on the evening of August 21 at Ba Dinh Square.
The Chinese military is scheduled to arrive at the end of August to join the National Day parade on the morning of September 2, he said.
Evaluating the first joint rehearsal, General Thanh emphasised that the participating forces completed the tasks on schedule, with quality and high spirit. He also noted that support from the public and the press has given the troops additional strength and motivation to be fully prepared for the official event on September 2.
Military and civic formations are expected to take part in another joint rehearsal on August 24 before a pre-review on August 27 and a full rehearsal on August 30.
These formations will officially participate in a military parade at Ba Dinh Square as part of the National Day grand celebration on September 2.
At the inauguration ceremony, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Thi Thu Hang announced that six high-level international delegations from Cuba, Laos, Cambodia, Belarus, Russia, and China will attend the National Day celebration. In addition, 20 delegations representing political parties and eight delegations from foreign defence ministries will also participate in the event.
