VOV.VN - Education New Zealand (ENZ) in collaboration with the New Zealand Consulate General held a ceremony in Ho Chi Minh City on November 23 to present the New Zealand Universities Awards (NZUA) to 8 outstanding high-school Vietnamese students.
This is the first year that the NZUA scholarship has been launched. It is also the first undergraduate scholarship programme offered exclusively to Vietnamese students by the New Zealand Government.
The scholarships provide recipients with the opportunity to study at eight leading public universities in New Zealand, namely the University of Auckland, the University of Otago, the University of Waikato, Massey University, Victoria University of Wellington, the University of Canterbury, Lincoln University, and the Auckland University of Technology.
Following a rigorous selection process, eight talented students from across Vietnam were chosen to receive the scholarships. Many come from top high schools in Ho Chi Minh City, including Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted, Tran Dai Nghia High School for the Gifted, and Nguyen Thi Minh Khai High School.
Scott James, New Zealand’s Consul General in Vietnam, observed that the recipients of this year's scholarships demonstrate a broad range of academic interests, spanning business, physiotherapy, science, fine arts, commerce, and education.
He expressed confidence that their contributions would strengthen ties between New Zealand and Vietnam over the coming decades.
Meanwhile, Ben Burrowes, Education New Zealand’s Regional Director for Asia, noted that the NZUA scholarship programme attracted exceptional applications in its first year, reflecting the ambition, talent, and commitment of Vietnamese students.
He added that the eight New Zealand universities participating in the NZUA scholarship programme are all ranked among the world’s top 500, recognised for their academic quality, research impact, and innovative teaching approaches.
He also revealed that ENZ plans to expand opportunities for Vietnamese students to experience the New Zealand education system, with a New Zealand Government Secondary School Scholarship (NZSS) for Vietnamese learners expected to launch in 2026.
