VOV.VN - For the first time, audiences will be able to observe Vietnam's wildlife in real time through Vietnam Wild Live, a pioneering television project produced by Vietnam Television (VTV) and broadcast from Con Dao National Park, Ho Chi Minh City.
The programme is scheduled to air daily from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. between June 25 and 30 on VTVgo and VTV's digital platforms.
According to journalist Nguyen Thu Ha, head of VTV's Science and Education Department, the project reflects an effort to bring nature closer to the public after years of producing live broadcasts covering news, sports and major cultural events.
“The project aims to help audiences experience the beauty of Vietnam's ecosystems while promoting greater awareness of nature conservation and biodiversity protection,” she said at the launch of the broadcast.
The idea for Vietnam Wild Live had been under development for several years before Con Dao National Park was selected as the first filming location. The park is regarded as one of Vietnam's most important protected reserves, home to diverse forest, marine and wetland ecosystems.
To prepare for the project, in 2025 the production team spent over one month conducting field surveys, assessing signal systems, and identifying suitable locations for installing recording equipment. Specialised cameras, surveillance cameras, and camera traps were deployed in various areas on islands such as Hon Bay Canh, Hon Trung, Hon Tre Lon, Hon Tre Nho, and others to continuously record wildlife activities.
Unlike conventional wildlife documentaries, the programme will allow viewers to witness events as they unfold in nature without editing or predetermined scripts.
"We can sit anywhere and still watch nature's story unfold live. This isn't a film that's been edited; it's what's happening in the wild exactly as it is," director Nguyen Hoang Lam further said.
Con Dao National Park covers approximately 20,000 hectares of terrestrial and marine ecosystems. The protected area is home to more than 1,000 plant species, over 200 terrestrial animal species and around 1,700 marine species. Among them are many rare and endangered species such as sea turtles, dugongs, hawksbill turtles, and many endemic bird species.
Beyond its role as a nature programme, Vietnam Wild Live is to serve as a bridge connecting the public with wildlife conservation efforts and raising awareness of biodiversity protection and Vietnam's natural heritage.
With its multi-day live broadcasting model from a remote natural environment, the project is also expected to open a new chapter for wildlife television in Vietnam and bring the country's biodiversity closer to domestic and international audiences.
