Vietnam Records recognises Hon Trung as most fertile seabird habitat
The Vietnam Record Organisation (VietKings) has officially recognised Hon Trung as a special seabird breeding habitat.
VOV.VN - Scientists have documented four previously unrecorded bird species in Quang Tri province, including several of significant conservation value, according to the management board of Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park.
The management board announced on March 4 that during the implementation of a provincial-level science and technology project surveying wild bird species in the park and key bird areas of former Quang Binh province (now part of Quang Tri), researchers identified four species not previously listed in the local avifauna records.
Among them, Egretta sacra (Pacific Reef Heron) was recorded in the Vung Chua - Yen Island area, inhabiting coastal rocky shores and intertidal zones.
Prinia inornata (Plain Prinia) was discovered in inland wetland habitats around Hac Hai Lagoon, as well as in grassland and shrub areas of Dong Chau – Khe Nuoc Trong.
Meanwhile, Parus monticolus (Green-backed Tit) was observed in low-elevation evergreen forests within Phong Nha – Ke Bang National Park.
Notably, the team also recorded Aythya nyroca (Ferruginous Duck) in the inland wetland ecosystem of Hac Hai Lagoon. This species holds the highest conservation significance among the newly added records and is currently classified as Near Threatened at the global level, while also listed as Near Endangered in Vietnam’s Red Data Book.
According to the park’s Management Board, the addition of these four species helps update biodiversity data and provides an important scientific foundation for the long-term management, conservation, and monitoring of bird populations in the region.
