VOV.VN - Border guards operating in the central province of Ha Tinh said on May 7 that they have cracked down on a large drug trafficking ring from Laos, arresting six Laotian nationals in the process.
According to details of the arrests, at 10:00 a.m. on May 6, the border guards stopped a suspicious car as it was travelling through Cau Treo International Border Gate.
After searching their car which was registered in Laos, they found and seized a total of 121 kg of synthetic drugs which had been hidden in the car’s undercarriage, with the value of the drugs being worth tens of billions of VND.
Six Laotian nationals in the car, including three men and three women, attempted to jump out and flee from the scene, but were surrounded by local police forces.
The case is currently under further investigation.
Customs authorities seized more than 3 tonnes of drugs of all kinds, with 365 suspects involved, from December 16, 2022 to February 15, 2024, according to a report by the Ministry of Finance to National Assembly deputies.
