VOV.VN - Hanoi maintained positive socio-economic growth during the five-month period through May 2026 and is preparing to unveil its newly approved 100-year master plan through a 4D visualisation model later this month.
The information was announced at the Hanoi People’s Committee’s regular monthly meeting on June 5, chaired by Chairman Vu Dai Thang.
Reporting at the meeting, Nguyen Ngoc Tu, Director of Hanoi’s Department of Finance, said the capital continued to post encouraging socio-economic results during the five-month period, reinforcing its role as one of the country’s leading economic engines.
Alongside economic growth, the city has accelerated institutional reforms and policy implementation. The capital recently adopted a number of important resolutions aimed at carrying out the 2026 Capital Law, increasing public investment and boosting technical and social infrastructure development.
Foreign investment remained a bright spot, with Hanoi attracting US$3.02 billion in registered foreign direct investment (FDI) from January to May 2026, exceeding the city’s target by 116%. More than 16,000 new businesses were established during the same period, up 35% year-on-year.
Public investment disbursement also gathered pace. By the end of May, the city had disbursed VND47.718 trillion, equivalent to 39.77% of the target assigned by the Prime Minister. Major infrastructure projects, including Ring Road No. 4, Ring Road No. 2.5, Red River bridge projects, National Highway 6 upgrades and flood-control works, are being accelerated to support economic growth.
Notably, tourism continued to recover strongly, with the city welcoming around 4.1 million visitors from January to May, up 30.9% from the same period last year. It has also expanded tourism promotion activities and hosted international familiarisation trips from markets including Australia and Japan.
Apart from its socio-economic development agenda, Hanoi is advancing long-term strategic planning. The city has approved its 100-year master plan under Decision No. 2512, setting out a vision to develop Hanoi as a green, smart and multi-centre metropolis, with the Red River serving as its principal ecological, cultural and landscape axis.
According to Nguyen Ngoc Tu, the plan will provide an important foundation for restructuring the city’s development space, creating new room for growth and enhancing the capital’s international competitiveness. Its approval also marks an important milestone in Hanoi’s planning process after years of operating under parallel planning systems governed by different legal frameworks.
The city plans to officially unveil the master plan alongside the 2026 Hanoi Investment Promotion Conference later this month. In addition to publication through official channels, a key highlight will be a planning exhibition at the Hanoi Museum featuring a 4D model that combines images, documentary materials and advanced presentation technologies to offer a visual representation of the capital’s future development.
Hanoi is also developing a large-scale planning model for long-term display, allowing residents, investors and visitors to explore the city’s development vision for the decades ahead.
