Heavy rain and flash floods ravage mountainous districts in Quang Tri province
VOV.VN - A number of flash floods triggered by a prolonged period of heavy rain hit the central province of Quang Tri on October 7, causing serious damage to infrastructure and property throughout the locality.
Mountainous districts throughout Quang Tri province endure spells of torrential rain from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. on October 7. Rainfall is measured at 100mm in My Chanh district, 117mm in A Bung district, 128mm in Ta Rut district, 130mm in A Vao district, 135mm in Huong Linh district, and 137mm in Huong Hiep district.
Local authorities warn that this current spell of wet weather is forecast to remain during the course of the next three to six hours.
As a result of the heavy downpours, water levels in the rivers and streams in Huong Hoa and Dakrong districts of Quang Tri province rise at an alarming rate.
Local flooding also leads to the destruction of embankments and damages many roads in the surrounding area, therefore leading to severe traffic disruption.
Border guards remain on duty for 24 hours as a means of ensuring the safety of local residents.
With floodwaters rising at a fast rate, many roads are engulfed in water, making them in accessible for local people.
Teachers are unable to come home from school due to rising water levels.
