High-school students to do four graduation tests as from 2025

Under a decision dated November 28, candidates will sit two compulsory tests (mathematics and literature), and two optional tests (a foreign language, history, geography, physics, chemistry, biology, economics and legal education, informatics, and technology)

Compared to the previous graduation exams, the number of tests will be reduced to four instead of five (in 2023) or six (in 2022). In the 2023 exam, the candidates took three compulsory independent tests in mathematics, literature, and a foreign language, alongside two of optional combined tests in natural sciences (physics, chemistry, biology) and social sciences (history, geography, and civic education).

The new exam model is expected to help reduce pressure and costs on society, and ensure equal access to all subjects.

The high school graduation exam is considered the most important event in a student’s life time after they complete 12 years in school. Its results will be used for admission to universities/colleges, which many view as the only way to find professional careers.

The exam has been designed to assess important domains in the high school curriculum and select the highest scorers to fill limited places in universities/colleges.
