Intense heat hits peak in Northern Vietnam before heavy rain arrives

VOV.VN - Northern Vietnam is entering the peak of a widespread heatwave on July 9, with temperatures reaching up to 37°C, before heavy rain arrives and lashes large parts of the region.

The ongoing heatwave is spreading across localities in the North, especially in the Northeastern region, where daytime temperatures are commonly ranging from 35–37°C, with some places exceeding 37°C.

Meanwhile, the heatwave is also extending from Thanh Hoa province to Da Nang city in the central region that is forecast to lasting through July 10. Temperatures in these areas also hover around 35–37°C, with some locations exceeding 37°C.

Meteorologists warn the intense heat combined with low humidity increases the risk of fires and explosions, especially in residential areas due to high electricity demand. There’s also a significant threat of forest fires.

Health-wise, the extreme weather may cause dehydration, exhaustion, and even heat stroke if people are exposed to high temperatures for extended periods.

According to the National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, from the night of July 9 to 13, the mountainous and midland areas of Northern Vietnam will experience moderate to heavy rain with thunderstorms, and some places may see very heavy rain.

Rainfall is expected to range from 30–70mm, and some areas are even anticipated to receive 300mm of rain. There is also a warning of intense rainfall over 100mm in just 3 hours.

Heavy rain is likely to affect Northern Vietnam for several days before gradually subsiding on July 13.
