This year’s programme, held under the theme “Vietnam’s Aspiration: Peace and Prosperity,” highlighted the country’s development vision in the new era. The theme reflects Vietnam’s aspiration for national advancement, with peace as a core value and foundation for sustainable development and international integration, and prosperity as the goal of building a fast-growing, resilient and inclusive economy.
Speaking at the gathering, Vietnamese Ambassador to Japan Pham Quang Hieu reviewed Vietnam’s major achievements over the past year, noting the steady progress in bilateral relations between Vietnam and Japan as well as the growing role of the Vietnamese community in Japan.
“The Vietnamese community in Japan has made significant and valuable contributions to Vietnam–Japan relations and to Vietnam’s overall development,” Ambassador Hieu said. “Over the past year, the community has continued to grow in size, strengthen solidarity and enjoy greater stability.”
The programme attracted more than 800 representatives from Vietnamese associations across Japan, creating a warm and festive atmosphere that contrasted sharply with the country’s unusually harsh winter weather.
At the event, Nguyen Hong Son, president of the Union of Vietnamese Associations in Japan, said Vietnam has undergone strong transformation in recent years across multiple sectors, including the economy, science and technology, education and diplomacy.
“Each achievement has been built on the efforts of millions of Vietnamese people, including the quiet but highly significant contributions of overseas Vietnamese in Japan,” he said.
Prior to the Tokyo event, the “Homeland Spring 2026” programme was held in Fukuoka, drawing participation from Vietnamese residents as well as Japanese and international friends.
With more than 600,000 Vietnamese nationals living, studying and working across Japan, the Lunar New Year (Tet) atmosphere has spread widely throughout the country, bringing the sounds and spirit of traditional Vietnamese Tet to the land of cherry blossoms.
