VOV.VN - An M-118 bomb, weighing approximately 1,362kg, was found by fishermen on November 25 located about 200 metres downstream from Long Bien Bridge in Hanoi capital.
After hearing about the news, the Military Command of Long Bien district acted swiftly and took measures to move the bomb closer to shore. They also deployed local militia forces in order to guard and ensure the safety of the site.
According to authorities, the bomb, about 56cm in diametre and 2.3m in length, contained 817.2 kg of dynamite.
After being assessed as a highly dangerous device, it was safely removed to Cam Son shooting range in the northern province of Bac Giang on November 27 for neutralisation.
In October, local military units removed and neutralised two Mark 118 bombs discovered in the same district.
Long Bien Bridge, an iconic symbol of Hanoi constructed by the French between 1898 and 1902, endured bombings throughout the Vietnam War.
VOV.VN - Sappers under the northern province of Hung Yen’s Military Command safely deactivated a war-time bomb on November 12 in Kim Dong district.
VOV.VN - The People’s Committee of Song Lo district in the northern province of Vinh Phuc said on October 31 that two large bombs had been safely deactivated by the local military command and sappers.
Sappers of the Quang Tri provincial Military Command on October 23 successfully detonated a 240kg magnetic bomb left over from the war.
