Among the martyrs’ remains, 16 sacrificed their lives in Laos, and 10 in Cambodia. The remains were repatriated by the K53 team of the Kon Tum Provincial Military Command in collaboration with the authorities of Attapeu, Sekong, Champasak provinces (Laos), and Ratanakiri province (Cambodia).

Addressing the ceremony, Y Ngoc, vice chairwoman of the Kon Tum provincial administration, expressed deep respect, sorrow, and profound gratitude to the fallen heroes who dedicated their youth and bravely fought and sacrificed for the cause of national liberation and the noble spirit of international solidarity and friendship.

The sacrifice of these martyrs will forever be etched in the hearts of the Vietnamese people and the peoples of the two neighbouring countries, she said, adding they have further enriched the tradition and spirit of solidarity between Vietnam and Laos, as well as Vietnam and Cambodia.

Though many years have passed since the war, numerous martyrs still rest on battlefields, and hundreds of thousands of martyrs’ graves remain unidentified. Many families, relatives, and their comrades continue to hope for news of their loved ones who fell during the war.

To fulfill the heartfelt wishes of the martyrs' families, the K53 team have coordinated closely with the authorities of the four Lao and Cambodian provinces in the search and repatriation of martyrs’ remains.

So far they have repatriated the remains of 1,393 martyrs, of whom 935 were found in three provinces in southern Laos.
