According to the Earthquake Information and Tsunami Warning Centre under the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology, the 2.5 magnitude earthquake hit Bum Nua commune at a depth of approximately 10 kilometers.
The earthquake was classified at disaster risk level 0, indicating no impact on people or property. Authorities said they are continuing to monitor developments to ensure public safety.
Northwest Vietnam, including Lai Chau, Dien Bien and Son La provinces, lies near active geological fault lines, where minor to moderate earthquakes are occasionally recorded. Although Vietnam is not located along major tectonic plate boundaries, the region has experienced earthquakes capable of causing noticeable tremors and moderate damage.
