National Press Festival 2026 opens in Hai Phong, celebrating Vietnamese journalism

The event, running from June 19 to 21, is jointly organized by the Vietnam Journalists Association and the Hai Phong People’s Committee.

This year’s festival, themed “Vietnamese Journalism – Loyal, Creative and Responsible in a New Era,” is held under the direction of the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Communication, Education and Mass Mobilization, in coordination with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

The festival serves as a major gathering for journalists nationwide, with media agencies, journalist association members, reporters and journalism enthusiasts taking part in a wide range of professional, networking and interactive activities.

The festival’s debut in Hai Phong marks an opportunity to honor the more than century-long tradition of Vietnam’s revolutionary press while providing a platform for professional exchange, innovation and digital transformation in journalism.

This year’s event features 66 media organizations and journalist associations nationwide, with a total of 87 exhibition booths.

The exhibition space includes a central area, sections for major media organizations, journalist associations at different levels, a Hai Phong-themed section and outdoor exhibition areas.

Through these booths, media organizations are highlighting achievements in transforming their operations, ranging from print, radio and television to digital media, multimedia products and the application of new technologies in content production.

The event also provides an opportunity for participating organizations to share experience and achievements in digital transformation and the development of modern newsroom models.

One of this year’s highlights is the outdoor thematic exhibition titled “Journalism and the Flow of Vietnamese Culture,” organized by the Vietnam Press Museum.

Spanning nearly 150 metres, the exhibition features around 1,000 photos, documents, articles, newspaper covers and propaganda posters, tracing the more than century-long development of Vietnam’s revolutionary press from its earliest publications to today’s multi-platform media landscape.

In addition to showcasing media products, many booths offer interactive activities for visitors, including discussions, knowledge-based games, technology demonstrations and hands-on experiences with digital journalism products.

Alongside the exhibition, the National Press Forum 2026 is seen as a key professional component of this year’s festival.

The forum is being held on June 19 and 20, featuring 11 sessions, including opening and closing sessions and nine thematic discussions.

Discussions focus on key issues affecting journalism today, including safeguarding the Party’s ideological foundation, developing media economics, journalism copyright in the era of artificial intelligence (AI), promoting Vietnam’s image through digital media ecosystems, AI applications in newsroom operations, restructuring media organizations, policy communication and strategies for greater financial autonomy in media agencies in the digital era.

A new feature of this year’s forum is the participation of leading media organizations in chairing and moderating several discussion sessions, including Nhan Dan (People) Newspaper, Vietnam News Agency, Vietnam Television and the Hai Phong Journalists Association.

Their participation is expected to provide practical insights and share experience in digital transformation, management reform and multi-platform content development, contributing to the continued development of Vietnamese journalism in the new era.
