VOV.VN - Nearly 74,700 Vietnamese workers went abroad for employment in the first half of this year, fulfilling 57.4% of the annual target, according to the Department of Overseas Labour Management under the Ministry of Home Affairs.
Japan remained the top destination, receiving more than 35,240 workers, followed by Taiwan (China) with 28,206 and the Republic of Korea (RoK) with over 5,650.
Other destinations included China with 1,478 workers, Singapore with 1,100, Hungary with 572, and Romania with 400.
In June alone, Vietnam sent 13,060 workers abroad under official labour contracts. Japan was the leading market that month with 5,338 workers, followed by Taiwan (China) with 6,074 and the RoK with 673.
Vietnam aims to maintain and expand traditional labour markets while exploring new destinations that demand higher-skilled workers. At the same time, greater efforts will be made to safeguard the legal rights and welfare of Vietnamese workers abroad.
VOV.VN - Ho Chi Minh City is expected to train at least 9,000 highly skilled workers at the university level and above by 2030 to support the semiconductor industry.
