VOV.VN - Police operating in the central province of Nghe An stated on December 25 that they had co-operated with their counterparts in Dien Chau district to smash a major drug trafficking ring operating from Europe to the locality via air.
The mastermind behind the ring was identified as Le Tien Duc, 21, residing in Quynh Tan commune of Quynh Luu district. Duc was caught red-handed as he was carrying two kg of ecstasy.
During the investigation, the police faced a number of difficulties as drug traffickers had made use of several sophisticated tricks. They divided the drugs into small pieces to hide in cosmetic packages with the aim of avoiding detection during security checks.
Most notably, all transactions were carried out via social networking applications Telegram and Viber and the delivery locations were frequently changed.
Following a further investigation, the police also managed to arrest Nguyen Thi Thuong, 24, who was involved in the ring and were able to confiscate approximately 18.98 grams of crystal meth and 2.5 grams of synthetic drugs.
