Vietnam wins gold at European Physics Olympiad
VOV.VN - Vietnamese students were awarded one gold, three silver, and one bronze medals at the European Physics Olympiad (EuPhO) 2023 that concluded in Germany on June 20.
VOV.VN - All five members of Vietnam's national team won medals at the 2026 European Physics Olympiad (EuPhO) held in Sweden from June 12 to 16, securing one gold and four silver medals.
According to Associate Professor Nguyen Cao Khang of Hanoi National University of Education, head of the Vietnamese delegation, Nguyen Nhat Anh of Le Quy Don High School for the Gifted in Da Nang won the team's gold medal.
The remaining four team members each earned silver medals, giving Vietnam a 100% medal rate at this year's competition.
Nguyen Cao Khang said the result was particularly commendable given the increasing competitiveness of the Olympiad. He noted that Luong Duc Gia Bao, one of Vietnam's silver medallists, was ranked second among silver medal winners, falling only narrowly short of a gold medal. The result highlighted the ability of Vietnamese students to compete at the highest level of the competition.
Vietnam recorded its best EuPhO result in 2025 with two gold medals. Although the number of golds was lower this year, all five contestants winning medals further underscored the strength of Vietnam's team at international physics competitions.
Founded in 2017, the European Physics Olympiad is an international competition for secondary school students. The 2026 edition gathered nearly 200 students from 35 European countries and six guest teams.
Contestants sat both theoretical and experimental examinations, each lasting five hours. Vietnam has participated in the competition since 2019. Vietnam has participated in the EuPhO since 2019, with its team selected by the Vietnam Physical Society from top performers in the national competition for gifted students.
