VOV.VN - The Vietnam Buddhist Sangha has requested that all pagodas and monasteries across the country ring three sets of bells and beat bát nhã drums at 6:00 AM on July 1 as a prayer for national peace and prosperity.
All pagodas and monasteries across the country will ring the bell on July 1 morning as a prayer for national peace and prosperity
According to an official notice issued by the Executive Council of the Sangha on June 25, this ceremony will coincide with the official operation of the two-tiered government model in newly merged provinces and cities. Alongside bell ringing, the places of worship will chant sutras and perform spiritual rituals to foster a sense of national unity.
This is an extraordinarily meaningful event as Vietnam enters a new era of prosperity and development, reads the notice.
The two-tier local government model is scheduled to begin its operation on July 1 following the National Assembly’s resolution to merge administrative units, reducing the number of provinces and centrally governed cities from 63 to 34.
Under the new structure, 52 provinces are being merged into 23 new administrative units, while 11 retain their current boundaries, namely Hanoi, Hue, Lai Chau, Dien Bien, Son La, Lang Son, Quang Ninh, Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, Ha Tinh, and Cao Bang.
VOV.VN - Vietnam’s new two-tier local government system is expected to start operating from July 1, 2025 after the National Assembly approves the amended Law on Organisation of Local Government, slated for June 16.
Buddhist temples and establishments across the country will ring the bell, light candles, offer incense and pray for those who died from COVID-19 at 8pm on November 19, in coordination with a national requiem for the dead victims of the coronavirus.
