VOV.VN - rare green sea turtle accidentally caught by local fishermen has been safely released back into the ocean off the coast of Co To island in northern Quang Ninh province.
According to local authorities, at around 5:30 a.m. on July 4, several fishermen operating near Hon Gia spotted the turtle entangled in a fishing net and struggling to free itself.
Recognizing the animal’s endangered status, the fishermen gently untangled the net and promptly returned the turtle to its natural habitat.
The green sea turtle (Chelonia mydas) is listed as an endangered species under Vietnam’s Red Data Book and receives strict protection under national conservation regulations.
A rare green sea turtle, weighing nearly 20 kilograms, was successfully rescued and released back into the ocean by the Con Co Island Marine Reserve Management Board on November 19.
