VOV.VN - A widespread heatwave continues to affect Northern Vietnam and is expanding into parts of the Central region on July 29, according to the National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting.
In the North, especially the Northwest and Northeast, temperatures range from 35–37°C, with some areas exceeding 37°C. Relative humidity is low, around 55–60%, intensifying the feeling of heat.
The heatwave in the North is expected to last until around August 1. After that, the weather may shift to intermittent sunshine during the day, with scattered thunderstorms likely in the evening, especially in mountainous areas where heavy rain may occur.
Meanwhile, the heatwave is also expanding to Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, and the eastern areas of provinces from Quang Ngai to Khanh Hoa. Maximum temperatures range from 35–37°C, with some locations experiencing more extreme heat above 37°C.
Relative humidity remains low, typically around 55–60%. The hot weather in Central Vietnam may persist for several more days, said meteorologists.
The meteorological agency warns that actual outdoor temperatures may feel 2–4°C higher than forecast, especially in urban areas with surfaces like concrete or asphalt, which absorb and retain heat.
The combination of intense heat and low humidity increases the risk of fires and explosions in residential areas due to high electricity demand, as well as the potential for forest fires. In addition, prolonged exposure to high temperatures can lead to dehydration, exhaustion, and heatstroke, posing serious health risks.
