VOV.VN - Thousands of residents, monks, nuns, Buddhist followers, and tourists have paid respect to the Buddha’s sacred Sarira, a national treasure of India, in Da Nang city, central Vietnam.
At 4:00 P.M. on May 30, the aircraft carrying the Buddha’s relic from Hanoi landed at Da Nang International Airport. Shortly after that, a ceremonial motorcade began its journey through the city’s main thoroughfares, before reaching Quan The Am Pagoda in Ngu Hanh Son district where the relic is enshrined for veneration.
Thousands of people, dressed respectfully and standing solemnly with palms pressed in prayer, gathered along the streets to pay homage as the sacred relic passed by.
At Quan The Am Pagoda, the Sarira is enshrined in the Main Hall for public veneration from 7:00 P.M. on May 30 until the end of June 2. The pagoda will remain open 24 hours a day during this period to accommodate the large number of pilgrims and visitors.
To ensure safety and order, thousands of volunteers have been mobilised to assist attendees. Security forces are implementing comprehensive measures for traffic control, medical support, emergency response, and fire safety throughout the event.
“This is a profoundly significant event. For thousands of years, the Buddha's Sarira has traveled the world, and it is an honour for Vietnam to welcome it from the South, North, and now the central region,” said Venerable Thich Tu Nghiem, head of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha in Da Nang.
The veneration programme at Quan The Am Pagoda will continue until noon on June 2, after which a farewell ceremony will be held to return the relic to India via Da Nang International Airport.
The Sarira was brought to Vietnam from the National Museum of India via a military plane on May 2 in conjunction with the 2025 United Nations Day of Vesak. Since then it has been enshrined at several major pagodas across the country, offering the Vietnamese public a rare and profound opportunity for spiritual connection.
