VOV.VN - The recently ended four-day National Day holiday running from August 31 to September 3 witnessed a total of 257 traffic accidents occur in localities nationwide, resulting in 124 deaths and 193 injuries, according to the National Traffic Safety Committee.
The figures were down 9.82% and 22.5%, but up 2.66%, respectively, compared to the similar holiday last year, reported the committee.
Of these, there were 256 road traffic accidents causing 123 deaths and 193 injuries, representing respective drops of 9.22% and 21.66%, but up 3.76%, year on year.
Railways experienced one accident resulting in a single death and no injuries, while waterways saw no accidents.
During the four-day National Day break, traffic inspections were organised nationwide, detecting and handling 25,894 violations, including 16,425 drink-driving cases and 14,407 speeding cases.
As a result, violators were fined over VND14.6 billion in total, with more than 1,500 driving licenses being revoked.
There were 16,043 traffic accidents nationwide from December 15, 2023 to August 14, 2023, killing 7,077 people and injuring 12,248 others, reported the Office of the National Traffic Safety Committee on August 27.
