Traffic accidents drop sharply during four-day National Day holiday

VOV.VN - The four-day National Day holiday from August 30 to September 2 saw traffic accidents fall significantly in all three key indicators, according to the Traffic Police Department under the Ministry of Public Security.

A total of 204 traffic accidents occurred nationwide during the reviewed period, killing 116 people and injuring 128 others, correspondingly decreasing 29.17%, 25.16% and 37.25% compared to the same National Day holiday period last year.

Local traffic police across the country handled more than 38,000 traffic violations, revoked nearly 1,200 driving licenses, deducted points from more than 4,400 licenses, and temporarily seized 180 cars and over 8,800 motorcycles.

Notably, authorities addressed nearly 7,000 cases of alcohol-related violations, more than 9,800 speeding offenses, and over 200 cases of overloaded vehicles.

Despite a sharp fall in traffic accidents, the police said, the number of fatalities remained high with many accidents caused by poor awareness of road users.

Major General Do Thanh Binh, head of the Traffic Police Department, stated that, the traffic police force would strictly enforce tougher regulations on transport service drivers and propose professional management measures to raise drivers’ responsibility for protecting people and property while driving.
